Beanie's foot................

Anybody have any info on whether or not the reports about his foot are registering with the Saints and changing their evaluation of him?
I've really come around to thinking this could be a great pick for Reggie, the offense, and the entire team over the past couple of weeks, and would be disappointed at this point if we pass on him due to some sketchy reports of an injury.

Don't even try, dude. 90% of the people here think Wells is a bum who can't catch and is a one trick poney who runs too tall and isn't Brandon Jacobs. 215 lb Moreno who is slower and smaller is a better pick for these guys. You won't be able to sway them, so be prepared for the negative comments about Wells. To me, in this offense, he could easily be the NFC Offensive Rookie of the Year. Moreno is a slight and I mean slight upgrade of PT. Both around the same size, same speed and same talents. Good at a lot of stuff, master of none.

His agent says his foot is fine, but its worth noting that he has a small laundry list of injuries over his college career:
2007:
1. Missed most of spring camp (5/07) with a left ankle sprain
2. Left the Penn State game (9/23) when he re-injured his ankle
3. Did it again after just four carries in the Kent clash (10/13)
4. Suffered what later was diagnosed as a right wrist sprain and a broken bone above his thumb vs. Illinois (11/10) and was forced to wear a brace the following game vs. Michigan (11/17).
2008:
1. Sat out spring drills after having surgery to repair his right thumb fracture (5/22)
2. Was carted off the field with a right foot sprain in the third quarter of the season opener vs. Youngstown State (8/30), missing the next three games vs. Ohio University (9/06), Southern California (9/13) and Troy (9/20).
3. Upon his return, he was forced to wear an oversized offense lineman's high-top cleats to protect his foot
4. Suffered a hamstring pull vs. Michigan (11/22) 5. Sat out most of the second half of the Fiesta Bowl vs. Texas with a mild concussion.

Why are you worried about someone elses draft pick?
Posted on 4/23/09 at 9:53 am to whodatfan
If we draft Wells I am done with the Saints. I will become fully committed to the Texans.

And how many times was he ACTUALLY thrown to? Tell you what, go see how many times Pittman was thrown to when he was at OSU. Just because the kid wasn't the focal point in the passing game, doesn't mean he can't catch. Still don't know why that is such a big deal? Do we really need a big, banger back to catch the ball? Isn't that why we brought in a better "pass catching" FB in Evans and don't we already have the premier pass catching scat back in Bush? Jesus, I guess we should check Brown and Stinchcomb's hands to see if they are "acceptable" enough when they check in as a "tackle eligible"!

On JRIB he said the foots fine and he got cleared by Dr. Andrews FWIW

he's not at OSU anymore. A back in Payton's offense NEEDS to be able to catch.
Usually when a guy has like 8 catches in 4 years, thats not a coincidence.

Thanks for the info Pelican. I agree he's been banged up, but the fact that he still put up over 1000 yards AFTER missing three games with the foot injury is impressive and shows he can play hurt. And in 07 after the hand injury and with a cast, he had probably the best game of his career against a very good Michigan team. None of that makes me nervous about him just like I didn't think Adrian Peterson's injury history was a concern coming out of college.
And I hear ya bamablows. Not sure why people wouldn't be excited about a big physical back that can outrun a defense too. As for his catches, who gives a shite? We wouldn't be drafting him to catch passes out of the backfield.

Seriously, whodat, is catching THAT big of an issue for our power back? In 2006, Deuce had 30 catches for 198 yards. I'd be willing to give up less than two catches a game for just over 10 yards if it means a consistent power running game between the tackles when we need it.

Its not catching alone that's the issue, but rather no proven ability to catch combined with a very poor rating when it comes to pass blocking. If he can't do either, he's dead weight to SP.

Have fun with a team that has an up and down QB and a slightly retarded back up.

Does anyone know what Wells' workouts were like at the combine or OSU Pro Day? I'm sure they had him running routes. I mean, did he drop everything? If he caught half of them, that's good enough for me seeing as how he would not be drafted as a pass catching back.
As for pass blocking, plenty of backs weren't asked to do that in college. Beanie seems like a mature young man who is very coachable and has a great attitude. I don't doubt for a second he'll be able to pick up blocking schemes well enough. That is not a reason to pass on him IMO.

I will bet that franchise goes to a Super Bowl before the Saints.

a so-called Saints fan admitting that if the Saints select Beanie they will no longer be a Saints fan kind of appauls me...i can't imagine myself ever rooting for another team besides the Saints...i don't want Beanie either but for someone to say they won't be a Saints fan anymore if we select Wells is just plain retarded...i bet if we make the Super Bowl this year, that idiotic fan will be back jumping on the bandwagon faster than she could say Beanie Wells...

I can't speak for the "90%" of the people here, so I guess I will speak for the 9% who think like me.
I don't believe Wells is a bad RB. On the contrary, I believe he will be a good pro. The 9% who think like me believe the Saints would be making a great mistake in drafting him, because we don't need a RB, WE NEED DEFENSE.
It has nothing to do with Wells or Moreno's skill set. Right now, we have a good RB group. Maybe not great, but above average to good. On the other hand, our defense sucks arse. Now, what do you think we should focus on, improving our suck arse defense or improving our good RB's?
I will take defense 9 times out of 10.

come on, dude, you don't turn off your fandom just because they do something you don't like. if that's the case, you should have stopped being a fan when Haslett ran Roaf out of town.
