If you were the Astros GM

and McLane would allow it,
Would you trade Berkman, Lee, Oswalt, Tejada, or Wandy to build up a farm system since it's virtually barren?
I would keep Berkman (keep fans). However, the rest would be up for auction to me.
Lee-----I'd almost lean to keep him, but then again he could start getting injury prone any time now.
Oswalt-----losing velocity every year it seems like. I say trade him and get what you can for him before he turns into Mike Hampton at Colorado.
Tejada-----if I can find someone who will give me something of worth, then he's gone in a heartbeat. Dude sucks and is old.
Wandy------I'm on the ropes on this one. He looks like a young promising 2 man in the rotation, but he could also collapse and be nothing as past years have indicated. I'm thinking is he a 1-2 year wonder like Steve Avery or Damian Moss was for the Braves?
Overall, I'd say 2 should go if the Astros are out of it by the All-star break. Gotta do something to rebuild the farm system.

keep Berkman and Wandy, suffer one or 2 years, get some draft picks and a free agent or two

I would try to trade them all. Berkman is the only one who could garner really solid prospects.

I'd probably just kill myself and end the misery.

Not true. Oswalt could probably pull some solid prospects down from a team that is one starter away due to injuries or poor performance(Mets, Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers, Braves, Phillies)--assuming he has an ERA under 4.50.
Lee, if he turns this season around, can definitely get at least 1-2 solid prospects from teams that are missing a bat come all star break. (Dodgers, Rays---who happen to have a plethora of pitching they can give up.)

Here is a better thing to ponder:
Do you get rid of Lee and keep Berkman to rebuild? THat way you keep some fans and a solid starter, but you lose a solid hitter in Carlos Lee.
Berkman is no spring chicken anymore at 33. Now may be the time to trade him, to the chagrin of the fans of course.
ETA-----Lee isn't a spring chicken either.

Lee and Berkman are the same age.
Lee's contract + his age devalue him a bit.

I'd move any and all sans Berkman and Pence, as they have that thing that Astro ticket-buyers have always loved, along with Oswalt..the core that inherited the baton from former fan favs.
Not a bad team at all, but not young, and not going anywhere either in the grand scheme of things..just competitive and entertaining.
Ship Roy O to the Phillies for cheap before the trade deadline.

I would trade Pence for a pitcher, but I don't think even that would happen.

I agree. However, it'll be hard to move Tejada or Lee. Lee because of his contract (as mentioned earlier) and Tejada b/c nobody will give up a lot of talent for his sorry arse. If Tejada has 12 bombs and is hitting near .300 at the all star break he needs to go immediately.
I'd love to keep Oswalt if i were GM, but I'd be afraid he's gonna start getting rocked. He's a strikeout pitcher who's losing velocity every year it seems. You could probably get 2 very good prospects from a team in the hunt. (Mets, Phillies, Dodgers, Yankees -if they have injuries, Angels)

If pence is having a good year (.280 12+ HRS at the All star break) you could probably pull down 1 solid prospect and 1 decent prospect for him. However, since Pence is your only young hitter on the team I think he has to stay. YOu trade him and you're looking at an OF of Lee, Nobody and nobody.
