Does this affect the 3 new coach's contracts on the Football team that haven't been signed yet?

Most of athletic's funds come from TAF, which is separate from the actual university

It should, but of course athletics are fine, but really who on here actually cares about the academics of LSU

All SEC schools should be fine

SEC athletic department budgets: Growing and growing

As long as they are wise stewards of the money LSU should be fine

The plan, at last I read was for LSU Athletics to hit up the SEC for any financial needs, based on when their new ESPN deal kicks in

In short LSU Athletics will be fine; they will be effected, to some degree, by the state budget cuts and TAF support likely being the same or slightly low, due to the economy; BUT they can just ask the SEC for some help.

Unfortunately the Academic side of the institute doesn't have this luxury so all of us in college will be paying more and getting less to help; but really, what else is new?

one of the main reasons why o'keefe was hired was to raise money. one of the main reasons why alleva was hired was to balance the books. if you put those two together, you should see that someone, somewhere thinks that lsu's athletic situation needs serious reform. from what i understand, the athletic dept is in significant debt. also, alleva is doing a good job to change that.

Well I would love to see this article because I have a hard time seeng how the Atheltic Department can be in significant debt

There is debt and debt. For instance while Capital improvements may be debt and it is not really the same. I mean Alabama is about to go on an 80 million dollar expansion of their stadium

That will no doubt entail some debt but the financial health looks fine overall.

this is coming from people who work in the ath dept. they could all be wrong, but what they are saying is not far-fetched. lsu has incurred substantial bills from all of the expansion and renovation of facilities. thank goodness for taf.

I know some of you forget that people actually attend LSU for an education, so in this question, LSU is in serious FINANCIAL TROUBLE, they are cutting over 50 million dollars of the university!!! Which includes millions of dollars in scholarship for students who come here that under normal circumstances couldn't. So with that being said, would anybody actually donate to LSU, and not TAF, b/c a donation to TAF is NOT a donation to LSU in my eyes

Yeah, thats what kinda angers me, LSU Athletics can go get help from the SEC ... that's a luxury the college itself doesn't have ... in a sense, we're all screwed

It is a balance. I saw that South Carolina tranfered some of their funding to the general fund

It should be noted that Skip is working on the fundraising for non atheltics too

Facilities should be paid for, PMAC, Tiger Stadium, football brings in gazillions? Just sayin. If the recession turns around soon it shouldn't be a problem.

I'm usually not a big Notre Dame fan, but LSU needs to follow them in this. Notre Dame allows people access to tickets by making a donation to ANY PART of the school to count, instead of the 100 dollar TAF requirement which only goes to TAF not the school, that is in SERIOUS TROUBLE!!

And I think we need to make cuts on the athletics side when a COLLEGE is messing around with people's scholarships and there ability to OBTAIN HIGHER EDUCATION, and sorry guys but that is more important than any football game
