start over Hawkins? just curious, I can see him not having a chance againt Peterson, but you would think he would start over Hawkins being that he's more athletic.

Obviously the coaches see it differently.

Reading the Rant you would swear that Hawkins was a 2* walk-on that was a little "special".

obviously, but Hawkins is stiff and not as fluid as Eugene, last year was Eugene's first time starting so I expected mistakes, but to each their own.

couldn't the same be said of Hawkins?

I think the only thing Jai does better than Hawkins is tackle.

Brandon Taylor might end up beating out both of them...

No he isn't. Hawkins was burnt more than anybody last year. He got a few picks so he stayed on the field. Who knows what Mallory was thinking last year but our D was a major clusterf*ck.

You do know that Hawkins is #29 and Eugene is #4 right?

Hawkins rarely even got thrown on last year, he was blanketing people. All people will remember though is the two bad plays against Arkansas (which again were among the few throws even attempted against him).

That is more of a tribute to PP's awesomeness.

Hawkins made some "first time starter" mistakes, sure. Eugene has been consistently underwhelming in most of his appearances.

BS. He was thrown on alot and was good for giving up at least one big play a game.

So Eugene isn't subject to the same mistakes? Not hard to be underwhelming when your forced to play 10 yards off the L.O.S.

Hawkins side was thrown on a good bit, but I think that was a scheme thing as much as anything. The LCB side since Pelini was here generally lined up a bit farther off the LOS than the other side. It's like they used that side to bait shorter routes and then jump em (think Zenon) or to have that CB be the 3rd guy in 3 deep. Also he gave up more than those 2 tds to Arky, I counted 2 he gave up the week before against Ole Miss.

That said, I like Hawkins and think if he can be more consistent with the good plays he made (the INT that shoulda been against Arky, some of his plays against Julio, and his play in the 2nd half against Troy to name a few), he'll be pretty good.

Oh this is definitely true, I was just saying that him jumping the double-move and getting burned, and then the fade at the end is going to be what people remember. Towards to back end of the season people started getting him with double moves but he was excellent for the first several weeks, and still solid after that.
