With the Red Sox adding Penny and Smoltz this season it got me thinking there seems to be a bunch of guys who were stars and are trying to prove they can get back to their previous high level of play. Any predictions on who may be the most successful?

Smoltz,Penny,Glavine,Griffey,Wood,Varitek,Pedro,Ortiz,and Mike Hampton

Feel free to add others

Ortiz has lost 20 pounds and is in great health this season. A couple of years ago he lost weight and his hitting was much improved so I am hoping the healthier and less bulky Ortiz will show us some great action.

Wonder if he'll even last as long as Jim Palmer's comeback

I think Varitek's hitting is gone but his experiance behind the plate is keeping him playing. He is hard to match as a catcher but the Sox are going to have to look for someone that is capable of doing a decent job behind the plate but hit much much better than Varitek is doing right now. I can't see Varitek going pass next year but I can't say I don't hope for the best as I really do respect his skills as one if not the best catcher in baseball right now.

Griffey just went back to where he began and is planning on retiring. I can't see him doing anything exceptional and I just wish him a good year so he can go out on a high note.
