Can anyone remember a time when s/one hired a coach when technically it wasn’t ever open?

I’m not insinuating anything was done improperly or unprofessionally in the process.
I just can’t think of another time in a major sport where the separation/hiring was the same announcement .
Anyone with better memory can chime in?

Was it at the same time?
I thought Skip did it when he ascended to AD, after announcing his coaching retirement like nearly a year before.

Way too much being made of this. Let it go.

I’m literally just asking if this is something that occasionally happens or is this potentially a first
There’s nothing to “let go.”
Outside of the Final Four run in 2006 as a wide eyed freshman I’ve never been invested in MBB. MM obviously had to go but honestly didn’t care either way.
I’m asking from a historical angle.
