I was there in the P-Mac with my mom and dad (a once in a lifetime event for me) as LSU coached by Dale Brown was playing Tennessee. LSU has a freshman by the name of Rudy Macklin and Tennessee has two Seniors by the name of Bernard King and Ernie Grunfeld. LSU didn't win that night. But there was an enormous feeling about the direction of the men's basketball program and where it was heading. Macklin had an awesome game and he was only 6' 7''. King and Grunfeld each had 30 something points and went on to the NBA. I don't have that same feeling about the men's basketball program as it has died seeming to never return. The teams under Dale Brown always took on the personality of their coach. And his personality was one that always believed victory could be had. The Tigers lost that night as Tennessee had over 100 points and LSU had about 80 something. LSU just lost to Kentucky by 7 points in the first game of the SEC Championship. From the opening tip I never believed that LSU would win. I guess I needed some help there But from the coaches and the players on the teams under Matt M. belief has never been a reality.

It wasn't the "P-Mac" back then; just the plain ole "Assembly Center."
