The record-holder is Mallard (Wikipedia).



Sir Nigel Grisley designed the class (and others), and the photo is of the locomotive from that class named for him. IIRC both locomotives and two or three others from the class still exist, one in Wisconsin.

One of the features that contributed to its performance was ... yes I know this proves my sense of humor is juvenile, but I just love this name ... the double Kylchap blastpipe, What good is a blast pipe if not to kyl chaps?
