Tried finding a thread about Drones, didn't find one, so here we go...

With this Admin looking at banning foreign made Drones, what company is positioned to take over the market from DJI? Essentially for general personal use to business, photography, real estate, etc use.

I looked up where Autel Drones are made, and got the below. Thoughts on if they could do it?

quote:

Autel drones are primarily manufactured in Shenzhen, China, but some components are assembled in the United States, particularly for the "Made in USA" EVO II Dual bundles. This assembly includes parts sourced from both domestic and international suppliers.

Not 100% on topic but the last three administrations have been fairly consistent and they aren’t banning “made in china” per se.

They are banning companies that have vertically integrated at scale and are so dominant that their price/performance threatens the entire markets and could in turn become national security risks. Essentially these are products that are so good that it would be silly to buy anything else and neither the US or nor any ally has an answer.

Examples are Huawei, ZTE, Hikvision, Dahua, and TP-Link(not ban but justice dept probe), There has also been a lot of posturing to keep BYD and such out of our auto market.

So think DJI has gotten to this level?

I was at a store the other week for Christmas gifts, and employees/customers were talking about how DJI products aren't coming in. It was even mentioned that they aren't coming out with updates for some products. May be an aging product thing, but didn't sound like it. This is what got me thinking about what I asked.

DJI plus Autel (also banned?) make up 85-90% of their markets.

Dahua and Hik “only” made up 55-60% but were rapidly growing that when initial action was taken.

TPL I think is over 50% of residential retail but they’re just getting bullied to keep pricing fair and I haven’t seen any ban rumors.

I don’t know anything about drones but you don’t get that market share making over-priced junk.

Thanks for that. I looked into them a bit, and couldn't find a shop to look at their products. Perhaps they are not at the commercial level just yet?
