LSU is thin at rb and amazingly thin at qb. LSU needs at least two more qbs assuming Van Buren stays. Getting two quality qbs out of the portal could cost a fortune. I think it’s fair to assume LSU will bring in one of the top 5 qbs in the portal with the expectation they will start over Van Buren. Players like Leavit, Sorsby or Lagway are not coming to LSU to sit behind anyone. What other good portal qb is willing to have to compete with Van Buren for the number two spot?

Johnson is the type versatile athlete that could flourish under Kiffin while giving LSU a decent emergency option as a third qb and provide quality depth at running back. I have seen people on here derogatively compare Johnson to Russel Shepard. I think Johnson is more physical than Shepard, but in any event, being compared to Shepard is not a bad thing. Shepard played seven seasons in the NFL.

All that said, If LSU can get and afford two quality qbs in the portal without chasing Van Buren away and afford another top running back without chasing Durham or Berry away, Johnson is certainly expendable. But you can’t build a championship team without quality depth.

I assume its all a money thing these days and that if Johnson does leave, it will free up whatever NIL money they have allocated to Johnson.

Not reading that. We also don’t really need him. We can find someone else to run sideways then cut into a defender

What has he shown at all that he is an SEC caliber RB? He doesn’t do anything above average.

He’s also fumbled in the redzone multiple times this year.
