I think DK64 being such a flop has scared anyone from trying again, but it could be done. We’ve got so much more experience with the genre now and much of the world building is already done. The main thing is -for the love of god- keep the kollecting under control.

I haven’t played anything newer than DK64, but I heard great things. They’ve definitely got the platforming in a good place.

I always heard Banjo Kazooie was great, but I’ve never played.

Wasn't really a flop. Top selling holiday game in 1999, 90% metacrtic (87% user). I know it got a lot of hate because of the collectathon and the horrible camera controls, but shoot, most N64 games controlled like crap, and I was a completionist through and through back then, beat it like 3 times. I am always crossing my fingers that it will get a remaster, but I know it will never come.

Plus it came with an expansion pack. What was not to love about this game?

Sales (especially back in the day) are only a measure of hype and past performance. I don’t trust reviews, lol.

I particularly didn’t like all the backtracking for FIVE different characters. Three would have probably been fine. I also felt like some of the worlds underachieved. Decent concepts, but I can’t say I loved any after the sand level.

I get what people didn't like about it. I personally loved unlocking a new Kong and going back to older levels and seeing new areas, its own version of a Metroidvania.

Some of the mini games were a pain in the butt, but overall one of my favorite and most played 64 games behind GoldenEye.
