After a lonnnnnnng football season! (Which is still going, we play WO Stark tonight!) I'm heading to the camp for a few days of relaxation!

I'm itching to get on them- Cryptic Message- I think its that time of year they may be up North North if I've been watching the weather right. Maybe even on their way to an Ice House of some sorts!

If anybody sees a large male and children on a Custom Aluminum boat wave at me. Hopefully we catch a fish!

Report yesterday that birds are picking at the saltwater barrier. Saw two boats between barrier and Westlake yesterday fishing.
Between WL and Prien there’s a bunch of areas you should be able to scratch some out.
Birds also picking in bayou Dein. Falling tide AM.
Good Luck

Fished Westlake a few weeks ago, two 20” reds and two spec keepers and a striped bass. Went to BL a few small specs.

Slooooow start today. Fished from I10 to barrier and back. Tons of birds, saw some shrimp. No fish.

Oldest son caught a nice slot red early, my little dude caught 2 on 3 sand trout. No other fish harmed. Weird deal seeing so many active feeding birds and no fish.

Drove boat to cal pt and trailer yesterday afternoon. Stopped at turners to fish birds and only caught 5 keepers. Trout under birds are mostly shorts or it’s sand trout in the lake. Damn near December and little to no birds picking with fish under them.

Yeah, I think it was just sand trout under the birds this am up north.

May grab some gulp tomorrow and see of we can find some reds up there somewhere on the banks or docks tomorrow.

This morning was better, not great. Still tons of birds, not much besides dinks under them.

Went way up into the old river channel and this cut to a back lake in there and caught a few keeper trout and stripers on DSL and rattle traps.

Have you tried fishing under corks?
Rig a piece of plastic in a khale hook and try it. Got into to nice trout east pass Sabine last Nov that only wanted it under a cork.

Slow day this afternoon. Ran up all the way to the dead end of old river.

Caught 2 solid keeper trout. Both on DSL. Nothing touching live shrimp under cork( which is crazy to me)

Did pull some puppy drum off some docks near Westlake launch with shrimp.

We threw out our crab traps on the way out though- and they came through! About 15 fat crabs.

Oh- and my 5 year old shot some squirrels with a 410 this morning after the rain at camp! Haha

So report for today- is fishing real slow- but we eating good. Crab, and then fried trout, and squirrels.

Cold front tomorrow, not sure if we will fish again in morning or squirrel hunt the river. Haven't seen any ducks so not even bothering with that.

Birds picked hard on east side of black lake yesterday 3:00, also picked in salt ditch. Birds picking in salt ditch this am but it’s white capping out here now.
Sitting on a job out here for a month, have seen zero ducks which is terrible for this area.

I am shocked at the lack of ducks. I didn't want to fight the wind this am so we put the boat in the water at the camp and cruised for squirrels. Found a few.

So odd to me that there's not very many anymore. I remember squirrels everywhere on the river banks this time of year.
