So I noticed what I thought might be termite damage on my garage exterior siding. Called Terminix who I have on contract, takes a week to come out only to tell me they aren’t licensed to treat wood termites in Louisiana?

I’m going to ask for a copy of the contract bc it seems questionable. In the meantime, I’m trying to get a free estimate but some others don’t treat drywood either.

Has anyone had drywood termite issues? Is it actually that rare here? Any recs for quality service?

If not too bad, it can be treated locally;otw, tent your house and be done with them

So many times I’ve seen this and people are screwed. I’ve never heard of anyone who sings praises about any company’s termite contract or any good that resulted post infestation. Every time it’s the company saying we treat them but we don’t cover damages or anything related to them getting by us. Maybe they’ll cover killing what’s there now at best.

Termite "contracts" are simply insurance policies where the company agrees to pay for damage from termites. The fine print is the problem. There are dozens of restrictions which they use to deny any claim you have. Claims are uncommon, but rarely paid. The most common is "prior damage" or "unrelated damage".

Having a reputable local company treat your property on a regular schedule is much cheaper and more effective.

What are people paying bi-annually for termite treatment?

Standard contract covers subterranean termites. Drywood are uncommon, as they do not need water source. Usually brought in with furniture or other source of non kiln dried or treated wood. Very slow to cause major problems. Easier to tear out infested lumber than fumigation

With that being said, does anyone DIY treat their home for termites? Termidor SC appears to be the product used by professionals.

Taurus or Termidor. I let my termite contract expire. House is 3 years old. We do live near woods and are a perfect spot to get termites.

I treat with Taurus and Termidor. I trench and treat every two years and spray down the lower exterior every year.

Taking my chances because the contracts are crap and expensive. The signs of infestation are pretty noticeable. Most termite damage is localized. I am rolling the dice.

Thanks for the info. Our termite company just completed the last part of our new home treatment. The only wooded area is about 300' to the north of our home. I am trying to figure a path forward for treatment.
