he's a walkon this season, actually a very talented kid. I would not be one bit suprised to see him play in a very very lopsided game. Other than that don't expect to much from him, but he adds depth to the bullpen and an arm in practice.

a little info on matthews...
from seeing some practices last fall and one this spring, i've seen matthews pitch, and from what i can see, he looks to be quite impressive. when pitching against the starters, he'd allow very few, if any, hits/runs and struck out a good bit of guys. he looks like a great off-speed pitcher who can locate well. seems to me like he could be a weekend reliever at some point in the season.

I agree. Spencer commands his pitches well and really hits his marks. Even more impressive than his pitching is his character. This guy is a leader on the field and in the class room. He's as upstanding as they come and I'm proud he's a tiger.
He will see pitching time. Just nothing to crucial.

up to this point, this guy is more important the C. Jones. Our outfield depth is way greater than our pitching depth IMO

The question wouldnt be whether or not who is better than who at this point. If Jones can help us, he will be on the team. They are both walk-ons so its not a scholarship issue.

From what I know on Spencer Matthews is that he tried out for the team last year and was the last guy cut. Coach Mar. Called him back personally every month or so to make sure he was gonna come out for the team again this year and he made it.
He works very, very hard and as has been said before is a great person. He is one of the hardest workers I know and I wouldn't be suprised to see him playing major innings in a few years.

My main question was who gets cut if Jones makes it?
I just assumed it would be Matthews. I hope Matthews does get PT. He has worked very hard. I think he can help us.
I just dont know who gets left out.

i'm confident that manieri has sent in a request for an exception to get around this ordeal. although jordan brown still keeps his scholarship, he will not step on the field, so he should not take up a roster spot. it seems to me that this is a situation that was not thought about when the rule was made, so hopefully, no one should have to get cut.
if someone were to be cut, i believe it would be a position player who is low on the depth chart. I doubt a pitcher would be cut, especially since brown is gone.

i believe matthews and ross started the first scrimmage this spring (correct me if im wrong). i dont know if it means anything or not but matthews pitched against the starting lineup and gave up no runs and ross gave up three runs to the backups.
though one of ross's runs came off of chad jones hitting a bomb on his first pitch....
