Central Texas primitive camping spot(s) suggestions

Headed to Colorado bend SP this morning, but all the primitive camp sites on the river are closed due to damage from the floods (I should have checked).
I ended up at Inks Lake SP. I have a nice spot with nobody around, but it’s not on the water.
Looking to spend around a week with my boy in the woods before he heads back to high school. Looking for suggestions on or near swimming holes and maybe some fishing. Interesting hikes would be a bonus.
We carry pretty heavy packs, so five mile hike in to camp is about this old man’s limit.
TIA

I'll have to think about Centex spots for a minute, I hate how crowded everything has become out there. I know this probably isn't what you had in mind but if it were me, I would make the drive to Caprock Canyon and Palo Duro. Water is limited at both but they're two of my favorite places and could easily keep you busy for a week.
Added some pics from when I was there

Lake Theo, it's at Caprock Canyon, but it's really only 5-10 acres.
Two of my best friends have family lake houses on Buchanan right by the dam. I will ask them if they have any suggestions for you in the area.

Palo Duro while beautiful, it is hot as hades right now. I wouldn’t recommend with the temps forecasted next week.

Pace Bend Park on Lake Travis is cool, Granger Lake- Fox Bottom Primitive area is awesome.
Lake Whitney has some areas, and I think you can still camp on Brazos River around tin top as well.
