My son is enlisting in the Navy and we're making the trip for his graduation.

If you want to make yourself extremely popular, rent a room for him and a few of his buddies. At least in the Army, you could only leave after graduation if you were "staying with family." Leave them a case of beer in the room and say adios after dinner.
