I've always been curious about BayPoint in PCB. It is a Jack Nicklaus design...reviews I have read have ben mixed.

Usually I play closer to Santa Rosa Beach/Walton County area but that is a bit of a drive.....especially with holiday traffic.

I live here. It will help to know where you're staying, what type of course you enjoy.

Bay Point- usually in decent shape. Lots of water. Pretty challenging course if you aren't a great ball striker. Bring lots of balls

Legacy (Formerly Holiday) Similar length to Bay point with fewer Hazards. Greens are typically the best in Bay County. Course is well kept but lacks the character of Bay Point- I prefer it because of the aforementioned hazard situation. Both of these will be similarly priced- $120-130 range. This is just the vacation tax, they are not worth this price.

Windswept- If you're staying on the west end of the beach this is a pretty easy drive up 331 or 79. Windswept IMO is one of the nicest courses in NWFL. Always well kept, nice carts, and they have like 6 tee boxes. You can make this course PGA tour length form the tips. Much more undulating than the courses already mentioned. Will be in the same ballpark price wise. The "trouble" here is tight fairways and greens often surrounded by thick, tall sawgrass. A wayward tee shot will land in pinehurst type waste areas or the woods. A wayward approach could mean a lost ball. Some water but not a lot. Beautiful course though

Those 3 all have driving ranges.

For a more budget friendly option there is Signal Hill, between front beach and thomas drive. No driving range- pretty "easy" course that is never immaculate. Front 9 is about as straightforward as is gets, back 9 has some tougher holes with hazards. $70 to play here. Greens are pretty slow and there will be a stray weed on them. They are redoing some of their tee boxes, but realisticlly they need to redo them all. A classic "muni" type course. Played there friday morning. It's always fun, but if you're a 0-10 handicap it's probably not your cup of tea

You have Lynn Haven Country club across the bridge. Would not reccomend. It's links golf for the same price as the top 3 but not as well maintained.

There are also nice public courses in Destin if you're looking to drive an hour.

Signal Hill is a public course down off of Thomas Drive. Nothing special but fun to play.

How do you like living there? Have a young family and it’s an option for us.
Visited recently as we have family over there.

Doesn’t seem near as much golf in the area as I would expect but that may just be because I’m comparing it to DFW.

I love it here, but I'm a bit biased. I went to high school here and eventually moved back, so I have a lot of long time friends in the area.

I enjoy fishing more than anything so it's nice to have so many options available. River, Lake, Bay, Offshore all right nearby.

The public schools aren't the best. Don't get me wrong, there's kids graduating every year here from public schools that are going to Ivy league, Duke, Vanderbilt, etc but it's also easy for a kid to fall in with the wrong crowd if they don't have a solid foundation.

I live across the bridge in town, which feels like a different world than Panama City beach.

It's the biggest gripe for me and my golf buddies. We love to play, but the courses around here have priced people out because they can. PCC in Lynn Haven was our go to for a while. One friend is a member but they've always seesawed between opening the course to the public and members/guests only. They recently redid their clubhouse after Hurricane Michael and their prices are just insane now. We would play a twilight round for $27 as recently as 4 years ago, and it's upwards of $120 now and the course is in the same shape. Since they are the only course on this side of the bridge, they can get away with it.

BayPoint and Legacy are similar. They're the only two legit courses on the beach, and they're on opposite ends of the beach, so they can charge outrageous prices because tourists will pay it. There used to be another course in town up 231 and another course on the beach, Hombre, that's a winery now. Those two going away has basically given the remaining courses free reign to charge whatever they want.

All that said, BayPoint does still have fair pricing for twilight rounds. Usually $65- and if you're used to DFW then a 50 minute drive is probably nothing to you- which would open up a lot of nice golf courses between Windswept, the courses in Destin at Harborwalk, and the RTJ course in Dothan

Yep, but they had Hombre 2 miles east of them. There's a serious lack of competition in Bay County when it comes to golf now and the courses are taking advantage of that.

I hope that eventually the worm will turn and some of the wealthier members at Bay Point and Legacy will get on at watersound club since Shark's Tooth and Camp Creek are both operational now. They have pretty much priced out the family man/after work/saturday morning golfer.

None of my buddies or I are on food stamps, but it's hard for us to pay the prices they are asking out a principle when we know what it used to cost and we know what nice golf courses cost in other parts of the state/country. We used to play 6-8 times a month in the spring and early summer. Now when we play it's either signal hill, which is still a ripoff, or a twilight round at Bay Point.
