I can't stand websites that don't tell you where they are located. They just assume we all know where the hell Binghamton is.
Took me a few minutes to figure out this is in NY for those of you who are wondering.

Binghamton is in New York and you should have already known that.

Why? Because of the "ton" at the end?
Seriously..not picking on this one but alot of local websites follow this same template..I get 1-2 links a week that are for some local town and I have to play detective to figure out what state they're in because they don't bother to put anything other than "Springfield" at the top of their header.

No, because I think educated college grads should be reasonably aware of all major and most 2nd tier cities in every state.

Must confess, thought I was a reasonably educated college grad, but was unaware of the location
Posted on 1/12/09 at 11:26 am to Doc Holliday
Only reason I knew is I was just in Ithaca, NY visiting Cornell with my son and it is nearby.

I also had no idea where Binghamton was.

I graduated in 1990 and don't exactly play 'name the major cities of each state' every night. That's why I have the Internet.

That is the stupidest statement I have ever heard. I have spent several summers in the NE and have never heard of this place.
I don't expect anyone outside of the neighboring states to know where lake charles is because it's of no real significance nationally.
Way to break that whole "Jersey stigma"

Have no idea what this means.

I would think truck drivers would have a better idea where 2nd tier cities are.

Well, why don't you try this theory out. Keep in mind that Lake Charles probably gets way more media exposure than this city, mainly due to hurricane reports on the weather channel.
But please, test this theory out.

Test it out? What are you talking about? My point is that "educated" people are ignorant also.
Posted on 1/12/09 at 6:15 pm to Tiger JJ
No, it's that educated people are by and large rational. Something is only worth learning if it is a) interesting or b) relevant to your life. As far as I'm concerned, the location of every mid-sized Rust Belt city is not on either list.

It's clearly literal ignorance.

Whatever happened to pure knowledge?

Sorry, I didn't quite understand the meaning of your post. When you said that college educated men "should" know every 2nd tier city in the country, I assumed that you were insinuating that we were dumb and did not know something we should.
However, it is now apparent that you are just being a douche and making yourself feel superior by listing some obscure town on the other side of the country and then chastising us because we didn't know where it was.
Congratulations big man. Good job stumping us about a city that has a population of 45,000. 45,000 people definitely doesn't qualify a city as "second tier".
Just to put it in perspective for everyone:
Ruston - 20,000
Prarieville - 30,000
Houma - 32,000
New Iberia - 33,000
Binghamton - 45,000
Bossier City - 60,000
Kenner - 70,000
Lake Charles - 70,000
Metairie - 145,000
Shreveport - 200,000
Baton Rouge - 225,000

Thanks, I think the point is won!
Posted on 1/13/09 at 10:43 am to Doc Holliday
..and in other news; websites that don't list the state along with the city somewhere in their header still suck.
