The main problem with the lack of a running game is scheme and the lack of a QB running.

This is not some bombshell revelations but you can’t run a RPO system where the QB has no desire to run the ball. When Nuss runs some, much like Burrow ran some, the offensive run game will begin to open up. Defenders just don’t buy the fact that Nuss might keep it and run. This causes lanes to close prematurely, thus making it more difficult for running backs to squeeze into those lanes. The same goes for when he drops back to pass and has open lanes to run through. He needs to do a better job of taking what the defense will give him.

Hit the nail on the head. The handful of times that Nuss has tucked and run, the defense is always caught flat footed.

The biggest difference right now between Nuss and Burrow is the effective use of RPO and the QB running out of the pocket when the opportunity arises.
