Spin off KKK Question

Am I the only person here that has lived in the rural south my entire life and never met (or heard of) an active klan member?
I would think I would at least hear something through the gossip mill from time to time if they were still around.
I live in the delta to boot, you would think they'd be here if anywhere. It makes me feel like that Travolta Pulp Fiction Meme. Where are they?

The only time I saw anything close to that was as a child of 10 or so.
One night the fire dept answered a fire call up the road from our house. Some one had lit a cross in the open area of a bungalow colony. Locals had a real disdain for Hasidic Jews.
This was in upstate New York. Hate sucks. Dont let hate in to your heart.

That was my comment in the original thread. There was a Klan march in my small GA town back in the mid 80’s and everyone thought it was a joke and laughed at them. That’s the last I’ve ever heard or seen of them.

Well said, hate destroys the vessels carrying it as much as the person/people its aimed towards

I met one active member 40 years ago when I was 19-20. He was about 60. A very calm, soft-spoken, and highly intelligent man. He did not run around broadcasting his affiliation, but he did not hide it it if the subject arose. He and his girlfriend were also members of a nudist colony, which was "shocking" to most in those days.
I met one former member about 20 years ago. He said he was just young, dumb, and radical when he was a member.

So just the hood and nothing else? Gotta be careful at the cross burning if you’re naked.

I'm pretty sure he kept the activities seperate.

Only guy I know of was a WWII vet that did and saw some terrible stuff in the Pacific theater.
Said he came home all messed up, joined the klan and spent 15 years in the bottle.
Said he woke up one morning in 1960, decided to give it all to Jesus and never looked back.

Only ones I know of are David Duke and Robert Byrd.

I lived in Alabama (which is supposed to a safe haven for Klan members according to outsiders) for six years and heard less racist shite there than I did in the Bay Area.

I reside in Haralson County Georgia these days. At one time Haralson County was a hotbed of Klansmen - probably more so than any other county in Georgia. Today, the Klan is nowhere to be found anywhere around here. Trust me. . . If you can't find a Klansman in Buchanan or Tallapoosa Georgia you pretty much ain't gonna find 'em anywhere unless it's in some Democrat hold-out community in the hills and hollers of Kentucky, West Virginia, Tennessee, or Virginia.
