Anyone ever been for Wells Fargo or PGA Championship?
How is the property set up for tournaments? Where are the best viewing spots on the course?

I've worked every event at Quail Hollow since the early 2000s.
There is a reason it is suddenly in the discussion for majors: it was built for them.
Several things:
1) The course is easy to navigate, although kind of spread out. There is a very wide paved service road that helps with crowd movement.
2) It is a stadium-type course, especially on the finishing holes. Great views of a great course.
3) There are a lot of fan-gathering areas - near the back nine lake, close to 10 green/13 tee, by the putting green and practice area and all along #7.
4) There are a bunch of large trees to provide shade.
5) Concessions and porta-johns are plentiful.
The folks who run Quail Hollow know what they're doing, so the tournaments are always well-run.
The only issue, and it isn't unique to QH, is getting in and out. They do what they can with huge Uber/taxi lots and the use of remote parking, but it can be a half hour or more just to get off the property.
If you're thinking of going, I highly recommend it.

It looks beautiful and difficult on TV. Can the general public play it?

Quail Hollow is about as exclusive a club you're going to find outside of Augusta. It is members only unless you are the guest of a member.
I get to play at a lot of private clubs, but I haven't even inquired about playing there, because I know how exclusive it is. There are at least two tour pros who are members, and probably more.
