After spending the last year in Japan and living within 5 minutes of two different conveyor belt sushi places and several neighborhood one-chef, five-to-eight-seat sushi bars, the prices of sushi in America make me depressed.
In the Osaka suburbs, plates with two pieces of nigiri start at 115yen at Kura Sushi and 120yen at Sushiro. At the small bars with higher quality, nigiri starts around 100yen per piece. The exchange rate is around 150yen to $1 right now. At the conveyor belt places, 10 of the cheap plates, 20 pieces of nigiri, is less than $10. At the small bars, 20 pieces is less than $15. Those prices already include tax. And you don't tip in Japan.
In America, a plate with two pieces of egg, shrimp, or salmon is $5.95, tuna or yellowtail is $6.25, and you're supposed to tip. 10 of the cheap plates, 20 pieces of nigiri, is over $60 after tax and before tip. That's insane.

Yeah, i just got back from Vietnam and it’s the same thing. The idea of only paying for what’s stated is awesome and more efficient. And the service is good too.

I know they have expanded outside of Austin but not sure this operation is the same.

Great place for sushi if you’re looking to spend $300 for dinner.

for special occasions it's worth it if you like qualify fish, preparation, atmosphere, etc.
If that's not your thing, go somewhere else.

It's not a knock off nor was it meant to be. Owner has or had another place in Destrehan strip mall for years.
