The umpire is literally killing the approach at the plate

By calling that off the corner obvious ball a strike.

Crowd plate and take your chances?

Yes, if the opposing pitcher can place it and you don't adjust to the umps strike zone then you aren't going to have quality at bats.

He just hit bingham on two strikes that were balls.

I've never seen it so obvious. Jay must be imploding.

First off I couldn't see the plate.

I checked the field measurements along with the camera angle. A strike over the black of the plate as seen by the umpire could appear to be as far as 2.423" outside to a right handed hitter to the TV audience.
