I'm so glad most of the baseball games are now available by video, because Blair is horrible. He frequently skips pitches. Like the count is 1-0, he talks, pitcher throws a pitch and the count is now 2-1. He does this frequently! Drives me insane if I'm in my car and forced to listen to him.
A radio announcers job is to be the eyes for the listener. Hawthorne had his faults. As some have mentioned, sometimes he would anticipate the play and get it wrong. We've all heard "Hawthorne homers" over the years, but he was very good on the facts: the count on the batter, outs, innings and score.
