No, plenty of difficult courses with zoysia and bentgrass. Most of the greens up north are bent grass.

The low scores were because the course was easy. No contouring on or around the greens. Hazards 40-50 yards into the rough that were hardly in play. Bunkers cut to grade making them very easy to play out of. If you have big greens and flat areas around them, pros are going to destroy a place no matter how long you try to make the golf course.

Look at Xander's last two holes. Iffy drives that he was able to hit easy bail out shots to large flat areas with simple up and downs (made them look simple even with the pressure of winning a major).

If pros can do that, then take dead aim when they are in position, they aren't going to make very many bogeys

Short flat areas? He hit a ball a foot above his feet. Wouldn’t call his drive on 18 iffy. It was 2 yards left of being perfect.

The course was soft and wet and there was no wind. No matter the course tour players will tear it up when it’s like that. The PGA championship isn’t always a low scoring -10 or less tournament. They’ve historically had some extremely LOW SCORES win.

I love bent grass greens. If the ones at Valhalla were as full of ridges as rtj in Prattville there would have been a lot more 3 putts. I couldn’t believe how many putts they hit had little or no break
