Interestingly, many of us remember this exact day because it was also the day Mount St. Helens erupted.
So this is permanent, love's shattered pride
What once was innocence, turned on its side
A cloud hangs over me, marks every move
Deep in the memory, what once was love
Oh, how I realized how I wanted time
Put into perspective, tried so hard to find
Just for one moment, thought I'd found my way
Destiny unfolded, I watched it slip away
Excessive flashpoints, beyond all reach
Solitary demands for all I'd like to keep
Let's take a ride out, see what we can find
Valueless collection of hopes and past desires
I never realized the lengths I'd have to go
All the darkest corners of a sense I didn't know
Just for one moment, I heard somebody call
Looked beyond the day in hand, there's nothing there at all
Now that I've realized how it's all gone wrong
Gotta find some therapy, this treatment takes too long
Deep in the heart of where sympathy held sway
Gotta find my destiny before it gets too late
quote:
Morris said he regrets that he was only able to pick up on the significance of what Curtis had been writing about after he had passed.
“Ian’s lyrics were great, you were very lucky to have someone who wrote such fantastic lyrics, but we thought, ‘that’s really clever, he’s writing about somebody else, it’s great how he can get in the mind of another person.’ And then after his death, you look at it and think, ‘oh, it was all about him,’” he said.

One of the last known photos of Ian Curtis.
Taken on the morning of Thursday, May 15th, 1980 at the ‘Photo Me’ booth in Woolworths Macclesfield, this was to be used as a passport photo for Joy Division’s first US tour.
Chris Cornell also died seven years ago today at the age of 52.

Never saw that photo before. That deer in headlights look.
