In Louisiana I believe the seed cane is planted in the fall and harvested the next year. After that you get one or more years of regrowth (stubble) that you don’t have to replant. How many years depends on how well it weathers I think.

Ratoon is the word you’re looking for and typically two years for max harvest.
Fing Bob Odem tried to build a cane plant in Rapides but thankfully it never happened. The lacassine plant never was used and we are still paying for his graft and corruption.
