'm not a fan of yard maintenance and live in area where townhomes aren't ghetto shitholes. A decent single detached house here are 500k+ while upgraded townhomes can be had for 100k less. The concern is they won't appreciate as much but it beats continuing to pay rent. What says the OT?

My wife and I fully intended to buy one in Stuart Florida or there about to live in after we retire. We'd have spent part of the year in it and part of the year in a lake house we haven't built yet (but have started). We changed our mind when stories started coming out about the hostile takeover of condos in Florida by investors who buy enough units to seize control of the owners association and then increase the owners fees to crazy amounts so they can offer the owners a stupid low ball offer and they will have little or no choice to take it. To hell with that. I wasn't particularly happy with buying one anyway but was willing if it was on the intercoastal and I could keep a boat in the water and not have to do maintenance on the house...but I will just trailer it, I ain't going to help someone hold a gun to my head to rob me.
