If the technology is guaranteed to work perfectly every time, I would not object but not sure that is possible.

Its proven multiple times a day that humans aren't close to perfect when it comes to driving. It is unlikely a machine will do it worse than a human.
The question is how much input will humans have? If the idiots that think its a good idea to go 15 MPH than the flow of traffic when the flow of traffic is already doing 10 over the speed limit are able to tell their self driving car to do that its going to be a mess. If, on the other hand, the tech is sensible, that will not be possible. I suspect it will be possible because its an easy enough thing to do to disconnect a cell phone that is moving more than 5 MPH or so but we don't do it....
