I do not have any medical debt and hope I never have to worry about it. But from what I have read, there is no need for insurance. Just set up a $10 monthly payment for every $200,000 of medical expense.

You have no idea what you are talking about. I believe goooooooooooberment should leave it to the free market. As a matter of fact, a person should be able to buy insurance from any insurance company within the free market. Also, instead of medical malpractice being civil, make it criminal. Then, and only then, will you see change!!
However, if a person did not apply for credit, how can their credit be harmed because of an injury or sickness? That is my point.
