New Mexico is a hunting paradise. Almost the entire state is public land and there are so few people hunting anything other than big game is like it was 100 years ago in most of the country. Surprisingly good duck and goose hunting...in the desert. And no one involved in hunting them. It is a special place, but not for everyone.
Its also not all desert in the traditional sense. The middle of the state from north to south is basically the same as the rest of the mountain states minus the people.
