It's really not all that wild. In the 1997-98 season (the year they started keeping stats of shot distances), Jordan shot 24% of his shots from inside 10 feet. James this season shot 66.2% of his shots from inside 10 feet. Comparing those years, Jordan shot 49.2% from 10-16 feet whereas James is shooting 31.3%.

James simply takes a lot more shots close to the basket than Jordan did.

So he takes more efficient shots and is therefore a more efficient scorer
