I recently traded in a 2012 Tacoma that I put a 2" lift on with the help of two friends. It wasn't bad at all.
Leaf spring spacers in the back with longer ubolts and Bilstein shocks. In the front I used strut spacers.
Anything taller than 2" on the 2nd gen Tacos and you have to buy a kit to slant the transfer case so that the front drive shaft angle isn't too extreme.
