Interesting replies. I love this movie. I love this movie because when I saw in my early teens it helped me understand my father. Dad was career Army, 3 tours in Vietnam, and worked for the military running troop training. This movie made me realize the effect this war had on the soldiers. All different, all painful, all theirs. I got lucky, Dad’s “desk job” in Vietnam didn’t prevent him from a fulfilling life, but he carried it until his death bed. Anyway, if you ever want to see something that steels your respect for the soldiers that serve, watch it.

The director definitely put every ounce of creativity and writing skills he possessed into it.

I’m not sure there is a bigger one-hit-wonder filmmaker to ever exist.
