The Japanese’s had to be shown we could initiate their country without invading. They wouldn’t have surrendered otherwise.

Anyone that disputes this needs to read the story about the Japanese soldier hiding out in the jungles in the Philippians until the 1970’s. He wouldn’t surrender until the Jap consulate cabled a letter saying the war was over and they lost.
