I believe this to be factual beyond debate.
The Japanese are historically proud warriors who fight to the death without mercy or surrender. Had the status quo before the flights of the Enola Gay and Bockscar continued, the loss of allied troops would have been incalculable and the loss of Japanese would have ultimately been, well, total.
I despise war and WMDs but I understand why the bombings were carried out. I don't like it, but I understand it. And back then the US actually fulfilled their promises so we helped Japan to rebuild and they ultimately became one of our greatest allies. We taught them to make steel and then not long after that they in turn taught us to make better steel.
