agreed with that statement. Appointment television is mostly dead due to streaming. You had maybe 3 shows a week worth watching (or that appealed to you) in the fall and spring.
On the flip side with streaming, we've had Shogun, Death and other Details (meh, but enjoyable,) Fallout, Gentlemen, Masters of the Air, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Manhunt, 3 Body Problem, etc. all come out since February.
While you can point to Sopranos, Wire, etc, there were never that many well regarded shows on at one time.
That being said, while there's more garbage than ever before, there's also some amazing choices like never before.
