When you know it’s imminent, your priorities change.
Edited: I was in law enforcement and was ordered to do something I strongly believed would likely lead to my death. But refusing would mean someone less capable than me would have to do it.
I wanted to call my wife, tell her I loved her and talk her through some financial management stuff to make sure the kids would be ok. What stopped me was knowing that call would make me an emotional wreck and I would not perform as well…which would make my death more likely.
I didn’t make that call.

I lived, but in that moment, my priorities changed.
