don't like it when people drive 54 in a 55 when I'm out for a drive on the weekend. That doesn't mean they're doing anything wrong. It just means they aren't doing what I want them to do.

What’s the reasoning for putting hazards on when it’s raining heavy?

Why would YOU do it?

Why do you think others would do it?

The majority of this thread is talking about Louisiana. Sure it’s allowed in other states. But I bet most of the people doing it in Louisiana are residents. And non residents should know the laws of the state they are in.

Louisiana wasn't mentioned until page 3, and there are people here from all over the country.

To signal a hazardous condition.

You'd have to ask them. Hopefully, to signal a hazardous condition. Some of them probably do it because they see others doing it. Some of them might do it because they were just looking for an excuse to annoy you.

What specifically makes it a hazardous condition?

The thread was created by a Louisiana poster in the middle of a significant thunderstorm taking place across South Louisiana.

It’s very clearly talking about Louisiana law unless you are ignorant or being willfully obtuse.

A significant difference between traveling speed and the flow of traffic is a hazardous condition, regardless of the cause.

Interpretation of a hazardous condition is a gray area, which is why some states spell it out.
Your specific scenario would also be valid during rush hour traffic, so why not do that? If you're talking about a sudden stop in traffic and you put them on momentarily to signal to drivers coming up to not plow into you, that's valid and logical usage. If everyone is going slower because it's raining, what hazard are you signaling about that others wouldn't be aware of? It's not really valid usage in most states.

You'll have to provide more specifics on your hypothetical.

A lot of people on this site know general areas where posters live due to them stating it, past discussion, etc. This thread is Louisiana based as is the majority of the registered users. Feel free to request the admins to correct me if I’m wrong.

So now that we all realize this thread is about Louisiana, so you recommend people from Louisiana to drive in Louisiana with the little hazard on in the rain?

This thread is about people using hazards on heavy rain.

What specifically makes heavy rain a hazardous condition?

So what. That doesn't limit the discussion to Louisiana in any way.

I’ve always assumed it’s because they think a flashing light is more attention-grabbing as to their presence in low visibility than a stagnant light. Basically say, “Hey, driver behind me. This is to indicate this is a hazardous driving situation, and I may not be up to your speed”

Now, is pulling over the safest situation? Yes. Instead of driving a motor vehicle in conditions you’re not comfortable in.

But unless this person is in the left lane or going under the posted minimum speed, they’re not breaking any sort of law in most places

People are doubling down saying hazards are ok in Louisiana while it is against the law. This is what people are arguing.

That's it? Just heavy rain?

Well, could be that there's a gator in the road. Maybe they're driving on a donut. Maybe they put them on to pull over and forgot to turn them off. Maybe they're just trying to annoy you.

I’m this case the driver is CAUSING the hazardous situation by driving slow. If you aren’t comfortable driving the speed limit, pull over.

Yep. There are lots of motorists in this state that drive with hazards on becuase they think it makes things safer in heavy rain.
