I think they overcharged with Murder 1, but I don’t think he will walk away either. Regardless of jury instructions, at the end of the day a jury is going to do what they think is “fair,” and probably convict him on at least one of the lesser charges.

there's a lot of things he did that make it much worse for him, but none of them really should matter in what actually transpired and how he will be judged by the jury.
He was not the aggressor.
While he took his knife out his pocket before he was hit, no one knew he had it, and he didn't use it until after he was punched in the face, knocked to the ground, and punched again in the face while on the ground, in water. Only after that did he stab someone who was coming at him immediately after he was just hit and thrown to the ground. And to say that kid was comign to break it up, like the idiot prosecutor tried to say, was a blatant lie when you can clearly see yellow shorts put his hands around Miu's neck and get stabbed. At that point, it's reasonable for him to continue to defend himself, regardless if anyone else against him has a weapon. When it's a mob like that against 1 guy, they are all the weapon.
If he had just told the truth after all of this, i doubt this even goes to trial. It's like what a parent tells a kid all the time, lying will always make things much worse. He shouldn't be convicted of manslaughter b/c he was a moron on how he handled the situation with police after he legally defended himself against a mob of people that attacked him first.
