Just finished reading Joshua and Judges in the Old Testament the past few weeks. The same theme, over and over and over again:

God delivers them from enemies and gives them rich lands.

They betray Him and start worshipping foreign gods and banging foreign women

They become weak and are conquered by their enemies.

They cry out for deliverance. God sends a deliverer. Tells them "Don't betray me and I'll protect you".

They betray Him and...

Lather, Rinse, Repeat.

And before the usual suspects start with "Anti-Semitism", this was the Old Testament. It was written by Jewish priestly scribes.

The Hebrews themselves recognized that they had a reoccurring loyalty problem to Yaweh.
