Home Depot and Lowes are pushing more and more into home services like kitchen remodeling and roofing at very high costs. Trying to make things retail that aren’t by just having ridiculous margins.

This. Home depot is just taking advantage of the lazy people who don't want to do any leg work.
A decently smart individual with enough time could build a tiny home for 1/3 that price with some YouTube skills and $2000 in small tools from home depot. The vast majority of people just don't want to use their problem solving skills to do things like learn how to cut a birdsmouth.
