Sarcastic answer is you aren't in your 20s anymore and might not be getting enough training miles or speed work, also probably racing pace above your fitness level.
Helpful answer is cool down after races is really important. Next time try a 5-10 minute slow jog after finishing, then some easy stretching. Even just a 30-45 minute walk after a race will help with soreness the next day.
