Most college umps are the ones who went through the minor leagues and either quit after a few seasons or got canned. Only 2% of umpires who make it to the minors out of umpire school make it to the major leagues so there are a lot of guys to choose from. Generally in the power 5 conferences you are getting guys that got up to AA or better.

So it's actually super hard and very selective to umpire division 1, power 5 baseball. It just isn't as easy as it looks fellas

The balls and strikes were horrible. The low ball for a strike worked well for Ark. I really never recall seeing LSU try to take advantage of it. I thought the Ark batter with the late home run looked at a couple of strikes that would have otherwise had him sitting down with any other ump. But it is a part of this game. Some have suggested having a computer monitor call balls and strikes. Last night, I would have voted for the computer.
