It's rare that people have a good work/life balance and that's sad because I don't think there should be any balance at all.
Life and family should outweigh work every time.
There will always be those who want to devote their own time to their profession as they seek advancement and I get that but it shouldn't be expected to ask people (internally or externally) to forgo their well earned benefits. Now, if there an employee who has work undone or poorly done, that's another story.
