Why does travel ball always get so much hate on this site?

When it became every swinging dick to start a team. It's just so oversaturated with kids getting rings and parent "happily" bitching about being at the field 24/7. It used to be the really good kids playing travel. Now it's anyone simply to avoid playing rec ball.

I get it, and I don't get it. It's just an easy target to hate on.

lots of parents end up doing it now reluctantly because the rec leagues have very little talent at all. so pick your poison, awful rec leagues or travel ball lifestyle. i hate it

I may have a unique perspective. I coached dixie for 20 years, 11-12 year olds. Haven't been to a game in 15 years. Went to a travel ball game last weekend. I was in awe. Very high quality game. Routine double plays, leading off, pick offs, perfect bunting. Wow, I was impressed. Those kids were probably better than 16 of the 20 all star teams I was associated with.

But, I KNOW, these were the picks of the liter. But, I was impressed. Enjoyed the game a lot. Only 4 walks the entire game.

Yup.

You raise them to all get a ring when only the winners should get rings.

So now instead of the trophy being the award the little kiddos only care about the shiny fake ring and the flat bill hat at the end of the day.

Made sports worse off and those kids now think everyone gets something and its just not true.

My son used to play because he wanted to and liked baseball. He decided he didn't want to play anymore last year, so he doesn't. He only plays for his school. The problem I have with it, is all the parents who continuously state that their kid "plays travel", like that automatically means they are really good. My son has never hit under .700 and is a better catcher and SS than any other player he has ever been on a team with and these parents act like their child is superior because they play on a travel team. It's really cringy.
