I mean, he didn't have a particularly great range, but his voice was expressive and unique. Country music, in particular, doesn't always require a strong singing voice because, I agree with Ray Charles here, it is all about the stories.

Is Willie a "great" singer? Saying he is a bad singer is probably too strong, but with most of these country singers, especially the men, it is about the style, the image, but most importantly the stories. The country gals do tend to be stronger singers, IMHO.
