Even with some really stupid rules basketball is such a great spectator sport when the game actually gets into a nice flow. The problem is that never fricking happens because the offensive player can initiate contact and be rewarded for it the vast majority of the time.
When attending a few LSU men’s basketball games this year, even with the PMAC 1/5 full, the atmosphere is electric when the home team is executing their offense at a high level with crisp passes, cuts, pick and rolls, etc ending in open shots or dunks. It gets even crazier and more entertaining if the other team is absorbing the hit and executing the same way on the other end.
Nothing kills the enjoyment of a game, either in person or in the stands, like fouls being called resulting in free throws. It just stops the game and kills all flow. This is why I think the NBA is so much less enjoyable for the older crowd now, the flow of the game just never seems to be consistent/get going due to touch fouls resulting in and 1 opportunities and stopping the game.
I blame James harden and his bullshite foul-seeking style of play for the proliferation of this.
