Never stop him from swinging hard. You can't teach that part.
At his age hit everything off a tee. Makes it more fun. He will learn over time to hit irons off the deck.
The reason John Daly swings the way he does is because when small he swung a full size club. I am not sure that is good. I would cut it down.
Please don't let him throw clubs. It's not a good habit and it's expensive. Old man years ago saw me throw a club and had a talk with me. Told me I wasn't good enough to that mad. I have never thrown another club since.

Someone told me when my son was five, “give me a tennis ball and tell him to swing as hard as he can, the rest will come with time”
