I think at the end of the day, JJ put him up there to get him as many plate appearances as possible to get out of his funk against "lesser" teams before the SEC play starts. The problem is that he isn't taking advantage of it with good at bats. Tommy White is as hard a hitter as there is in the league and even he chokes up on it when he's behind in the count and just tries to put it in play somewhere.

He batted the 9-hole several times, and I think for each of the first 4 games of the season. I think he gets better with more ABs and is in a slump/funk that is going to break. Austin Nola in his freshman year was a sub-.250 hitter. Kling is a sophomore, but I think with a full season under his belt, he ramps up and improves.

Perhaps he just isn’t as good as people hoped, but he’s a smart outfielder who has made a few pretty good plays. I can’t think of any bad plays he has made out there yet. His plate discipline and especially his ability to make contact with 2 strikes needs to get better. And I think he can be better.
